The paintings by several Syrian American and Syria’s artists reflect the highly accomplished work of the contemporary art scene in Syria today. Despite the recent war, Syrian artists have continued to create art and have produced some remarkable works. While none of the works here are political in nature, the influence of eight years of war is reflected in the style and content of a number of the paintings and the
development of the artists themselves. This exhibition provides a glimpse of the surprising diversity of Syrian art. The artists in this exhibition are deeply rooted in the country’s rich cultural and artistic traditions and assimilate the achievements of
Western Modernism, especially in the portrayal of figurative painting and expressive representation. The human being and the Syrian urban scene are in focus. The influence of Syrian heritage, Antiquity and Modernism are apparent in most of the paintings.
