BIOGRAPHIES

Isaie “Zeek” Mathias was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in Miami where he continues to live and work. He is a photographer and multimedia artist with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in behavioral science from the Miami International University. He produces work in light & shadow that explores the “intersection of the three themes: legacy, transmission and articulation” all of which are central to Haitian and African cultures. The evocative photography is a reverberation of his formative visual influences: marketing photography and folk paintings of the natural world.

Zeek is the founder of “Juicing with Art” and “A Reflection of Me” that promote Haitian culture to engage the multicultural communities of South Florida which earned him numerous awards and recognition for his photography, digital media, music and multimedia projects.  He travels frequently to Haiti to experience his heritage and to get inspirations for his artistic venues by focusing on ordinary people in Haiti’s rural areas who are living in isolation from the world due to the limited resources and the absence of technology that can connect them with the world.

Zeek’s vision is to bring forth the hidden characters of his subjects that define his artistic practice through photography, inkjet digital and multimedia projects to raise awareness and create space for dialogue about Haiti’s cultural heritage intertwined with his American experience.
